Instagram of the 17th Century

Willem Van Haecht’s ‘The Gallery of Cornelis van der Geest’, 1628

Me, holding my naked toddler.  Me, reclining naked on a chaise lounge.  Mostly Me with gorgeous clothes and glittering gems.

Holiday pictures:  The Visigoths’ sack of Rome.

Cute animal pictures:  Monkeys fighting over fruit.

“Come on over for a drink and see my collection of pictures,” I might have said back then.

Fast forward to the mid-20th century and home slideshows.  I would have said the same.

And now, it’s Me alone, with a lonely phone.
