The Pink BookMobile

Straggling home from elementary school on Friday afternoons, we would see, parked on Sasamat street off of West 10th Ave, the bubble gum-pink bookmobile.
Although a difficult choice to make, it was best to go in before going home to consume, between us, an entire loaf of fresh-from-the-bakery bread, sawed inexpertly into uneven slices and slathered with butter, cinnamon and sugar.
Instead, we would go through the bookmobile’s glass doors, folded open like welcoming arms; down the narrow aisle shadowed by floor-to-ceiling shelves of books, then sit cross-legged on the floor to read and be transported into imagination.
